The Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha, South Africa, has commissioned MEMORIST to preserve the memory of Nelson Mandela. The project aims to improve the museum’s acquisition register and create a formalized digital inventory of its 4,000 objects, mainly gifts given to Mandela by various donors, ranging from children to heads of state.<\/p>\n
MEMORIST is also researching the objects\u2019 provenance to ensure their historical context. This will allow the South African Heritage Resources Agency<\/a> (SAHRA) to declare the collection a national asset under the South Africa\u2019s Heritage Resources Act. In turn, researchers, visitors and students will gain access to a well-preserved collection, both online and in situ.<\/p>\n
