At the request of the CNRS and the \u00c9cole des Chartes, one of our divisions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkhenum.com\/\">Arkh\u00eanum<\/a>, contributed its expertise to the creation of a digital resource centre for Lalibela&#8217;s heritage.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;05638010-77cf-486f-a2d7-830936571c70&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Protecting Lalibela\u2019s rock churches through digitisation<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]This project, called <em>Sustainable Lalibela<\/em>, aims to protect and promote the famous rock churches of Lalibela, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arkh\u00eanum arrived in Ethiopia just before the summer of 2023 to train the local religious communities in the <a href=\"\/en\/heritage-digitization\/\">digitisation techniques<\/a> that would preserve and enhance the 300 religious manuscripts dating from the 12th to the 18th century.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;05638010-77cf-486f-a2d7-830936571c70&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Multi-disciplinary approach of Sustainable Lalibela<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><em>Sustainable Lalibela<\/em>, led by the CNRS and the CFEE, is funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diplomatie.gouv.fr\/en\/\">French Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.fr\/en\">Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnrs.fr\/en\/the-cnrs\">the CNRS<\/a>. This multi-disciplinary project includes research, restoration, development and skills-sharing activities aimed at ensuring the sustainable conservation of this emblematic site.<\/p>\n<p>In the heart of Ethiopia, Lalibela is home to eleven monolithic medieval churches carved out of rock, bearing witness to the architectural genius and religious devotion of the time.
