Celebrating 175 years of tradition and modernity in Plan-les-Ouates
MEMORIST supported the municipality in setting up this innovative experience, contributing ideas regarding the available content and features.
The tour app was officially launched on 28 May during the official opening of the celebrations. It is available on touchscreen tablets that can be borrowed from the town hall reception.
Connecting the past and present through digital technology
Once the project had been awarded, and based on the client’s stated requirement to revive local history, the MEMORIST project team drew up the technical specifications for developing the app.
Our experts proposed creating 3D reconstructions of scenes from everyday life visible in the municipality’s photographic archives to make them even more realistic and encourage visitors to explore these archives in the app.
The designers paid particular attention to the creation of 3D characters from the early 19th century. By exploring and explaining the finest details of the clothing worn by peasants and landowners, users can experience what it was like to be one of the first inhabitants of Plan-les-Ouates.
Consequently, developing the app required extensive historical research involving local contributors.
Essential historical research
Close collaboration was established between MEMORIST and various local contributors, including the Archives group, La Mémoire de Plan-les-Ouates, and Philippe Ruffieux, the deputy cantonal archaeologist.
Several working meetings in the municipality’s project team made it possible to consult and identify the relevant archives (over 360 photographs, documents, etc.) for the project. Once this work was complete, the project contributors drafted the texts to accompany the selected illustrations.
Based on the technical specifications, MEMORIST’s teams took 360° photographs on site and carried out photogrammetry of a historic tram, which was made possible thanks to the Geneva tram museum association (AGMT). Similarly, videos and aerial images captured by drone complement the immersive experience on offer.
App launched to fanfare
Following the unveiling of this digital experience, the municipality organised a week of celebrations from 28 to 31 May.
MEMORIST managed various aspects of the project, including the procurement and configuration of touchscreen tablets and the rental of VR headsets for the launch.
Our experts therefore provided a turnkey service to ensure the success of the project for our client.
